Using still images, As Can Be creates a layered landscape of haunted images driven by the desire to uncover a narrative for the father she never knew.
As Can Be is a meditation on the ephemeral, fragmented, and ambiguous nature of trauma memories. Reflecting on her father’s suicide when she was 7 years old, the filmmaker offers an intimate reflection of loss and mourning, experienced as a longing to recall and temporally hold faded moments in the realm of consciousness. As Can Be is an attempt to bear witness to memories that ultimately remain veiled and fleeting.
